ABSTRACT:
SMARTRICITY
The increasing
use of energy resources has always made it valuable, on a demand view. Of the
energy sources, electricity is one of the essential and has become human’s
basic needs in life over decades. “Energy Conservation is the Foundation of
Energy Independence” as Tom Allen said, the time for a real conservational step
for conserving the electricity has been in an urgent need. This is where the
main of objective of this project lies.
Citing a very common thing in day-to-day life, which is we
all often forget to switch off lights, or fan or any other equipment which we
use in our homes. It is one of the human tendencies to forget things at time.
This is where unnecessary wastage of the electricity occurs. To avoid this
unnecessary wastage this project has been presented.
There have been many
projects in which presence of humans is done by using different sensors like
PIR, CO2 sensors, etc. The scenario when it comes to real life situation is
that these projects won’t hold well, as the practical life situations (rooms,
CO2 level sensing time, instability of standalone PIR’s, etc.) are different
from that a theoretical view can explain. Project “SMARTRICITY” is a sensor
network based calculating electronic device which gives a more accurate and
faithful conservation. Basically it uses a sensor network, called the sense
zone, at the door/entrance which gives the count of humans entering based on
the count the calculations are made to provide electricity in a room/house as
long as humans are present there. For avoiding the time lag for calculation,
there is an initial zone (PIR network) which initially turns the electricity
on, later decides whether to ON/OFF according to the calculations made on from
the sense zone. Solar powers are a sort of conversional electricity saving but
when it comes to the cost of inverters many of the customers give up. Thinking
conversely, solar energy is used to charge a battery which will act as the
power supply source for the device. This system also provides automatically
turning ON/OFF the door lights (can also be used in street lights near houses).
SMARTRICITY is an electronic based electricity controlling device designed to
be more faithful to conservation of energy.
By installing SMARTRICITY in every home/office it would
show a tremendous decrease in the wastage of energy. Viewing the cost in terms
of solar power inverters cost or the complete setup installation cost, this
device provides a very much low cost gadget to save the energy. With the use of
solar charged power supply, it gives the independency of this device from being
powered up by the electricity of home/office. Some of the devices like
chargers, desktops, etc. can be avoided so that it will work even if some ones
out of the room based on the need. The main application of the project is in houses,
Government Offices, School/College Offices, etc.
